Storytelling for Inclusion

Storylabs provide a flexible method adaptable to different contexts and purposes for creating shared narratives. They reflect universal storytelling principles that can be adapted without issues to specific spatial  narratives or community purposes. Storylabs develop storytelling as a collective process rather than an individual talent, where everybody can contribute combining different languages and media. Storylabs do not require professional instruments but focus on  scripting and gathering documentary material to develop simple narrative structures that can be applied to different techniques and formats.

The labs are structured through nine steps for designing a collaborative storytelling project.

  1. Introducing method and tools
  2. Discussing together purpose and process
  3. Applying the scripting template
  4. Individual work: drafting the story
  5. First collective revision of templates
  6. Capture and collection of materials
  7. Presenting the story
  8. Postproduction
  9. Publication

The Storylabs are centered around the Scripting Template developed by Tesserae / ogino:knauss, which is based again on 9 essential steps, presenting the key questions that the scripting process should answer.
