Cancelli - Foligno

Cancelli is a remote hill territory in the Municipality of Foligno. The territory has been managed since the middle age as a commons (comunanza agraria), but today is almost totally abandoned. Here the Manufatto in Situ project developed a eight year long program of artist residences and summer schools aimed at contrasting the decline with innovative social and artistic strategies . Despite its remoteness, since the 80’s the area of Cancelli attracted art interventions in relation to nature and landscape, involving artists such as Sol LeWitt, Ann &Patrick Poirier. The project for a “Parco dell’Arte” was included in the local planning tools but so far not realised.
